Know your peeps…

Interesting article from Politico on new statistics on young adults living with Mommy and Daddy (for the record I didn’t leave ‘home’ until I was into my twenties.) According to a Census report “one in five men between the ages of 25 to 34 are living with their parents,” also “more 18-24 year olds are also crashing with their family. An incredible 59 percent of men and 50 percent of women continue to reside with those who once imposed curfews on them and forced them to eat vegetables.”

The numbers indicate something about young adults… just what is that something?

  1. Well, to state the obvious, a lot of it is financial at the moment.

There may also be some basis in a demographic shift shift. I think we tend to look at men living at home as negative, but in Latino culture in the States it’s common for extended families to live together. I’d argue this isn’t a negative-too lazy to get a job-problem, but rather a valuing of family. As the Latino population increases, these numbers may continue to increase.
